Coming out of Chapter 11 following multiple store closures, this 80+ year old brand was suffering from declining traffic, loss of brand relevance, disgruntled franchisees, poor operations, a complex menu and ineffective marketing.
Following a thorough assessment, RTS took Friendly’s through a brand renewal founded on their history, introduced new culinary offerings, and centered the stores around the ice cream experience.
Our design team renovated the interiors and exteriors in pilot markets, including graphics and signage, uniforms and product merchandising. Our marketing team helped devise new media and promotional strategies.
Pilot markets have begun to attract new, younger customers while re-engaging loyalists. Service speed was reduced from 20 minutes to 10. The menu was simplified, reduced by 18 SKUs. The boost in employee pride, along with the simpler, tastier menu and improvements in service and atmosphere have resulted in an average profit gain of 10% and growing in pilot markets.
